Technical skill upgradation for Handicapped women through ICECD garment training centre
As per the increase in demand for trained workforce (especially women) in the modern and export oriented garment sector, ICECD has trained women in modern garment technology.  ICECD is well equipped with a training centre, having modern garment production machinery ranging from simple sewing machines to various sophisticated, numerically controlled (computerized) machines. The centre has a full time training team to facilitate the training process.

Under ICECD’s Garment Skill Upgradation programme, specific training is conducted for Apang Manav Mandal, wherein physically challenged girls are trained to manufacture various types of garments. This year 35 handicapped girls have been trained. We have also conducted technical skill upgradation training in garments for other men and women.
 
Aims:
To strengthen the technical capabilities and managerial abilities of existing garment manufacturers and to expand their activities
To target garment manufacturers, mainly women working at home, desirous of acquiring vocational training and operational skills in modern garment manufacturing technology, coupled with entrepreneurial / managerial training
In case of traditional products, the need was to upgrade technical skills in the garment sector through product development and establishment of linkages for marketing
To create employment and self-employment within the garment industry

The participants gained knowledge regarding garment manufacturing, designs & fashions, and the new opportunities / technology / machines and its application in the garment industry

The Achievement motivation module helped the participants to gain self-confidence, calculated risk taking ability, communication skills and behavioural competencies

58 girls have started their own enterprise earning between Rs.20,000 – Rs.30,000 per month and the rest work in textile industries with salaries ranging between Rs.5,000 – Rs.25,000 per month.
