Disaster Mitigation
Poverty Alleviation

Millions of poor in rural areas have neither access nor opportunities to break free from the shackles of poverty. ICECD offers them such opportunity by sensitizing, motivating and developing them to become economically independent through capacity building for employment and self employment.  This has broken the myth that poor and illiterate cannot become successful entrepreneurs.

Target Population – Tribal, Rural Areas & Urban slums

The population of tribal & rural areas and urban slums of India is a symbol of energy, vigor, enthusiasm, hope – and an invaluable human resource on whom depends the future and stability of the country. It is a sad situation indeed that the employment opportunities have not been able to keep up with the growth in population leading to rising unemployment figures on one hand and demotivated individuals engaged in unproductive activities on the other.

This target group, especially of 18-29 years age group, whether male or female, would be invariably married and also into parenthood. Lack of education/ skills makes them unfit for most of the employment (except for those which require unskilled physical labour) whereas the lack of capital, guidance and knowledge causes hindrance in the way of any meaningful enterprise.

Challenges that the poor face:
Unemployment
Burden of responsibilities
Physical labour and lack of nutrition
Men’s addiction to liquor
Lack of direction
No Electricity / Roads / infrastructure

Economic opportunities are minimal and they are forced by the situation to leave the place and migrate to rural or urban town accepting lower wage and lower labour work.   ICECD stepped into the gap and provided a strong support to this segment of the population who were in a very vulnerable and underprivileged situation

Income generation programmes
Job creation through need based technical training
Viable technology identification and linkages through self employment
Increased access to micro - credit
Facilitating savings and credit groups management

This brought about a noticeable and sustainable betterment in their social as well as economical conditions.
