International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (ICECD) is successfully facilitating socio-economic and political empowerment of the underprivileged through Micro-Small and Medium (MSME) Enterprise Development since 1986.

A pioneer in designing and implementing need based programmes, the Centre is working with business communities, government departments and development agencies across Asia, Africa, Pacific and Cribbean countries. ICECD has trained over 10,000 trainers/facilitators directly, who in turn have developed the capacity of thousands individuals and organizations. ICECD recognized as a Centre for Excellence by the United Nations/ESCAP, continues to march ahead to create a better world.

To meet the ever increasing diverse development needs for socio-economic and political empowerment, ICECD is operating through various centers with its own team of experts having multi-furious experiences. The center has created partnerships with various government ministries, international donors, business communities and grassroots level organizations. It offers various business development services, training and capacity building support, carries out research and provides continuous support to large number of organizations, trainers, entrepreneurs, thereby creating a multiplier impact on society.

In recognition of its achievement ICECD has received various national and international awards. The prominent awards are the “Stree Shakti Puraskar” for outstanding contribution in the field of social development awarded by the President of India, Best Project Management Award by Project Management Institute (PMI) of India for “Socio-economic Rehabilitation of Widows”, Entrepreneurship promoter of the year awarded by Entrepreneurship Promotions Academy, Nigeria.

ICECD has also ventured into the field of formal education through Satyameva Jayate International School (SJIS) since the year 2000. SJIS aims at giving its students a wholesome all round development with excellence in academia, sports and arts. SJIS is one of the only schools to teach Entrepreneurship as a part of their curriculum right from Grade 1.

Place

Icecd, ahmedabad, gujarat, india. The icecd campus is located slightly outside the city of ahmedabad in an area called bopal. The institution is a home to lavish lawns, an open air auditorium, residential rooms, dorms, a full time canteen, tennis courts, volley ball courts, and a meditation hall.

Stipend

A token stipend of inr 5000 a month shall be given to all interns

Residential Facilities

Rooms on twin sharing basis are available at the institute at a nominal rent of usd 250 per month. This would include all meals (vegetarian) of the day (breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea) non-vegetarian meals can be ordered at extra costs from the canteen if required.

Internship Profiles

Profile 1: Fundraising And Donor Relations Work

Starting date: September 2013

Duration:  Minimum of 6 months, up to 18 months

Place: ICECD, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India

ICECD is establishing a Donor Relations Team, key responsibilities of which include identifying and following up on funding opportunities, coordinating and writing funding applications; and ensuring donor requirements are met through monitoring reports. The intern will support the Donor Relations team to balance the mentioned ongoing tasks with a more strategic view of how ICECD will sustain itself in the coming years. The role is an opportunity to become familiar with all areas of ICECD’s work as well as with its external policy environment, and will give hands-on experience in the area of fundraising. The intern will be working closely with ICECD Programme Managers/Regional Coordinators in ensuring that the needs, achievements and plans from the different ICECD programmes and regions are captured and communicated to donors.

Tasks will include amongst others:

Fundraising

  • Researching the funding environment and following up on leads for new types of funding streams (such as corporate, private/public fundraising) and keeping the donors database up to date;
  • Helping to set up a fundraising page (already underway) for members on the ICECD Portal
  • Liaising and obtaining/managing information for funding proposals and reports
  • Supporting ongoing fundraising tasks (proposal development, reporting).
  • Writing up a final report about findings, learning points and recommendations from the internship

General

Assisting and participating in the daily functions of the organisation.

  • Familiarity and understanding of the development sector;
  • Strong organisational skills, ability to multitask and work to deadlines;
  • Demonstrated research and analytical skills;
  • Proactive, able to work independently, problem-solve and show initiative;

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • High level of computer literacy (Microsoft Office pack and possibly other software or databases);

This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the inner workings of an NGO working internationally for over 25 years, to get hands-on experience and responsibilities in key programmatic areas and to challenge him- or herself in a small, dynamic team.

Profile 2: Collection Of Lessons Learned And Success Stories

Starting date: September 2013

Duration:  Minimum of 6 months, up to 18 months

Place: ICECD, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India

ICECD has over its 25years of existence touched over a million people. With each completed training and each implemented project ICECD leaves behind a long list of success stories of women entrepreneurs having fought odds to set up outstanding businesses. ICECD wishes to compile these stories from all parts of the world into a single publication.

The Intern will work with project field staff to collect lessons learned and best practices from all projects and assist with the writing of success stories.

Tasks will include amongst others:

  • Gather and organize into a database lessons learned and best practices from ICECD’s projects
  • Assist project managers with the preparation and editing of project success stories
  • Assist with the writing or editing of regular publications such as newsletters and annual reports
  • Writing up a final report about findings, learning points and recommendations from the internship 

General

This internship provides an opportunity to gain an insight into the atmosphere of rural, urban and tribal India along with an experience sharing of the exceptional women who have broken all glass ceilings to achieve economic and social freedom along with an overall understanding of inner workings of an NGO working internationally for over 25 years.

Profile 3: Development Of Best Practice Model

Starting date: September 2013

Duration:  Minimum of 6 months, up to 18 months

Place: ICECD, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India

ICECD has its own models of teaching entrepreneurship which has yielded a success ratio of business starters of 85% and employment seekers of other 10%.  In certain places, ICECD has trained entire villages with statistics show that 80% of the households now run profitable businesses. Areas covered were in and around the state of Gujarat like Iyava Vasana, Dhansura, certain tribal belts, etc.

The Intern will work to establish an entire model based on these best practices that have been successfully carried out. The model development would include the study of the specific areas, their backgrounds, the various steps undertaken during the training, the follow up sessions and lastly, the current statistics.

Tasks will include amongst others:

Establishing the Best Practice Area Wise Model (eg.: Iyava Vasna Model)

  • Study the background of the area, the people, the previously existing businesses.
  • Study the before-after scenario of the villages.
  • Study and compile the training steps undertaken to suit the specific needs of the area ad people.
  • Gather and organize into a database lessons learned and best practices from ICECD’s projects
  • Compile the area wise success model used to attain the statistics of successful business development into a report.
  • Writing up a final report about findings, learning points and recommendations from the internship 

General

This internship provides an opportunity to gain an insight into core workings of ICECD, the methodology used, and the tangible and intangible results achieved. An indepth study of the areas noted above would present a challenge to the intern creatively and academically. It would also give an overall understanding of inner workings of ICECD over 25 years.

Profile 4: Internship With Satyameva Jayate International School

Starting date: September 2013

Duration:  Minimum of 6 months, up to 12 months

Place: ICECD, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India

Satyameva Jayate International School was born out of the idea to teach entrepreneurship from an early age. Along with regular academic curriculum, we teach special modules of Entrepreneurship from standard 1. An academic year along with the study of theory includes art, music, dance, tennis, volleyball, international culture, leadership, entrepreneurship, camping, etc.

The Intern would be teaching world history, arts, culture, career development depending on his/her expertise.

Tasks will include amongst others:

Carnival 2012

  • Working with the children of all grades (1 to 10) to explain, elaborate and guide them through the Subjects.
  • Selecting additional projects on the latest research in subjects of world concern.
  • Assisting the teachers for school events related to the subject matter.
  • Writing up a final report about findings, learning points and recommendations from the internship 

General

  • Assisting and participating in the daily functions of the organisation.
  • Interns with a background in any of the following subjects will be accommodated to assist in teaching the subjects in regular school hours:
    • Geography, World History
    • English Literature
    • Music(we have a tiny school orchestra)
    • Arts (we have an entire Art Lab)
    • Sports (we have tennis courts, volley ball courts, special halls for meditation and yoga)

Intern Profile

Ideally, the intern will have the followings:
