1. What is Rural Development Management?

With 77% of the population living in rural India, and a vast majority of nearly 30% living below the poverty line, upliftment of the rural people and alleviation of rural poverty are necessary and logical components of rural development. Most development organizations target issues of income and poverty, social discrimination and human/gender rights.

With the Rural Development budget of India being Rs.36,000 Crores, there is a dire need for professionals in the field of Rural Development Management. Considering this need, ICECD's 1-year Post Graduate Diploma course has been sensitively designed with an exclusive coverage of theory, research and practical training that create experts with unbridled optimism. This course enables students to become well acquainted with planning, implementing and monitoring rural development initiatives in Government, NGO and Corporate sectors.

2. What is N G O?

The voluntary organization handling various projects for educational, health and socio-economic empowerment and human rights run by Government, Public sector, corporate companies are known as NGOs.

Non-government organizations working in the humanitarian and development sectors won official approval in the 1980s. Today, NGOs play a vital role in societal development. Their presence is felt worldwide, more so in the developing countries.

"Social Development", today, has emerged as the prime area of concern in contemporary society. Most of the parameters of social development are being given attention, more than ever before. The success of the "World Summit in Social Development" is a proof that economic upliftment without social emancipation is no more considered to be a genuine development paradigm. Similarly, it has been realized world wide that without NGO's active involvement, the required level of social development is impossible to be attained. Today, NGO's role has become the key factor in people-centered development.

There are approx 2 million such organizations in India out of which hardly 1% are working with the required levels of results and efficiency. The rest are lagging way behind the optimum standards simply due to lack of skilled management professionals for this sector. It is understood that NGO sector is 3rd fastest growing sector in the world, and ICECD with its 3 decades of experience in the NGO sector has developed specialized course ( accepted and recognized by Gujarat University) to produce competent management professional to cater to the huge demand for such experts world over.

15. How are ICMS courses different from the regular MBA and Diploma Courses?

15. RDM and NGOM - Standardized management/diploma courses fail to accommodate knowledge in relation to the changing context of the development and business world with excessive importance given to western models. These courses tend to give importance to managerial inputs only.

ICMS courses like Rural Development Management and NGO Management, on the contrary, impart education and develop skills in the individuals so that they function successfully in the ever-changing world of development. Through practical exposure and on the job learning, we develop dynamic and adaptive potential amongst students who learn to mobilize and manage resources in a fiercely competitive environment. Thus they learn to withstand global competition, foresee technological changes and thus drive the company/organization towards higher growth.

EME - A manager simply assists an entrepreneur in achieving the goals in an enterprise as s/he is employed by the entrepreneur. A trained entrepreneur is always a good manager but a trained manager need not necessarily possess the required entrepreneurial dynamism. To that extent, entrepreneurship education gives the much required entrepreneurial orientation to the general management course.

EME is a business oriented course whereas MBAs are job oriented ones. Therefore, in place of placement activities the course focuses on facilitating preparation of a bankable and viable business opportunity, project report or a strategic plan for the growth of new/existing/family businesses. The successful students may however explore job placement for experience and exposure before taking up business as career. The placement office will facilitate those students who would like to join corporate sectors after completion of the EME course.
